Dash

A G D A / A G D A

60 years travelling around the sun – it’s Dash
Moving like a panther round the public bar – that’s Dash
Pulling out the stubbies, Pouring out the pots
Serving up the twisties and the bags of mixed nuts – that Dash

Walking round the bar with a fifty yard stare – that’s Dash
Waltzing round the ring like he was dancing on air – that’s Dash
Rode across the country and he ended up here
Sharon’s at the helm and Brian’s somewhere – and here’s Dash

Bridge/Chorus

Dashing Dave Ramsay dreamed of the title
But some things are not meant to be
A barman a bouncer and little by little
A man can live happy and free

It’s a long way from England to the Footscray Hotel – but here’s Dash
But is there anywhere else that you’d rather be? – here’s Dash
Now he welcomes the punters, the punks and the rockers
The young and the old the listeners and the talkers – and there’s Dash

Dash Dot Dot / Dot Dash / Dot Dot Dot / Dot Dot Dot Dot – that’s Dash

Bouncing out the dickheads who couldn’t handle their beer – that’s Dash

In the Footscray Hotel

Dash — crash through or crash — he’s a graveyard smash

Quick as a flash — felt the pain of the lash — got a beard and moustache — workin for cash — learned to talk trash — loves sausage and mash — made a punchy splash — keep your hands off his stash — when he goes for a slash — give it a lash — never vain or brash

Dash prowls the bar like a boxing ring
And maybe he once could’ve been anything
But fate cut him down and tethered his wings
He was lying there leg turned to shrapnel

He headed off east across the Nullarbor plain
To where the purses were bigger and none knew his name
He says he might’ve had a shot at commonwealth fame
Until that motorbike lay / that accident left him shattered and bleeding

There’s nothing to say when He was lying in shock with a fifty yard stare
As his hopes of a title floated off in the air

One too many punches

If his thigh hadn’t smashed into little bits of shrapnel
One second his bike was a wild beast of freedom
The next it was cut down shattered and bleedin

He might have gone far

Dashing Dave Ramsay

Going for Commonwealth title??

Motorbike accident — broke his thigh — late 80s/early 90s

Came out from England when 6 (10 pound pom?) (1969) — brought up in Western Australia

Fought in TV Ringside at Festival Hall (but it finished in 1975 — Dash 12yo)

Was bouncer when couldn’t box

In pubs with Brian and Sharon for 12 years – the Post Office in Coburg before shift to Footscray

Wicked sense of humour

Looking through you to 10 streets away

Coulda held the commonwealth crown
