I guess that car is still up there (L)

Driving back to Melbourne just outside of Boort strange noises from the front of the car
It gave up the ghost in a flurry of smoke, that slowly rose into the summer air
I launched my fury into the dash We screamed until we laughed
we sat and finished off our stash amazed that we’d got that far
I thought I heard a crow laugh ha ha ha

We left the car by the side of the road and walked 5 miles to town
It’s a pity we both know the same about motors, we drank in silence till the sun went down
The football was on the TV, the Dogs were 50 points down
The steaks were big and the beer was cold as the sun sank into the ground
Didn’t feel much like country hospitality

We went off in search of a cheap motel and you booked their cheapest single room
I walked the streets until the coast was clear and snuck in when a cloud hid the moon
I slipped out early as you took back the key and fielded questions about the size of your meal
Then we stuck out our thumbs you said like Dharma bums under rain clouds getting heavy as steel
Another fine mess we’ve got into

A bloke with a hot rod on the back of his truck slewed up gravel with his balding tyres
He offered VB as we jumped in the front, I was wishing I was back outside
Well he drove us all the way to our front door, We gave him beer with egg and bacon on toast
Then he started saying how proud he was to be white, we quickly waved him on his way down the coast
Still, you can’t bite the hand that feeds

We dumped all the shit we had carried, with all the other shit in the spare room
Ripped the scabs off a couple of cans and collapsed like some pinned balloons
The TV murmured cosy and warm and you fell asleep on the floor
I wondered what you dreamed to make you smile that way, I even love the way that you snore
I guess that car is still up there (Repeat to fade)
