Lucky star (L)

Oh lucky star shine down on me, for sure the lord has forsaken me
I do what’s right I seek to please but I’m still as poor as poor can be

I go to work and I slave all day, I do as I’m told and I watch what I say
The kids cry for toys and for holidays, but the bills keep on coming to take all my pay

I’ve cut down on my gambling and cut down on my beer – for the love of my wife I ignore the blokes jeers
Each night we hold tightly to deny daily fears, that our love like our money will all disappear

There’s talk on the floor that there’s more jobs to go, there’s no money for wages the economy’s slow
But I watch all the bosses drive off to their homes and I swear I can’t see that they’re feeling this low

For years I’ve put up with the bosses demands, but there’s only so much that a person can stand
I’ve never been much of a violent man, but if I’m pushed much further I’ll punch and be damned

Oh lucky star shine down on me, for sure the lord has forsaken me
I do what’s right I seek to please but I’m still as poor as poor can be
