Love and it’s loss

Singing songs about love and its loss, she sat in the corner
Her voice was a potholed dirt road, she drank whiskey like water
And my heart was cut out and laid open
I was stranded and wind blown and broken
But I felt like I’d heard my pain spoken
I sat at the bar and I felt like i wasn’t alone

I was sitting there drinking my beer when I saw her look over
Her eyes were a question I wasn’t sure that I could answer
And her songs cried/broke like birds all around me
After so long of aching and doubting
I felt at last that hope might have found me
I looked in her eyes and I felt like the air was my home

Love is a shy startled bird/thing so hard to hold on to /
If you chase it too hard it can take to the wing to escape you /
But if you don’t make what’s in your heart known
You could see it grow bitter and cold like a stone deep inside you

As she packed up to leave I stood up and wandered right over
I spoke about the wide open fields in my heart I could show her
And she smiled like the sun in the morning
I thought I could hear the birds calling
As we walked to her place night was falling
We talked through the night and when we kissed the world was aglow

I could be unbounded

And she said that she’d like to go driving

I asked her if maybe we could find

I felt her music inside me and stirring

I was lifted on air and unbounded
I was smiling then lost and uncertain / they flew off like a storm then they found me

When she finished and had her free drink we fell into talking

Our talk flowed like streams to an ocean of long forgot feeling

She sang a last song and I felt like my senses got sharper
Love is a search in the dark for a light that might guide you
And you must light a lamp to guide others there searching around you
As she packed up her gear

I was riding the air

And her songs broke like birds all around me

I was carried away and unbounded ungrounded

I was startled to find that they’d found me

And I felt like a … had found me

When she sang her last song I was lurching

I couldn’t find the words though was trying
When she played her last song I was crying

Blown by a wind storm near dying

Falling

Like a startled, wild bird had just found m

And my stomach

Her last song was

as the evening grew darker
