The Mildura road (P)

We climbed up the steps of the Mildura bus
You said we gotta leave, this city’s just concrete and pain and dust
But no matter what happens next, if we boom or if we bust
No one can take it away, that here and now there was the two of us

We stared out the window at the passing one street towns
you took a photo somewhere of some girls laughin in their wedding gowns
Said they were like flowers bending and waving around
You said you wished we could be flowers too instead of something thrown away into the lost and found

Wo-o-o with you on the Mildura Road
Wo-o-o although the years have gone
Wo-o-o its where my mind still goes
With you on the Mildura Road

I’d never seen so much sunshine – it came washing down like a waterfall
And that leap of sky made me feel like I was just inches tall
You said you felt kind of cleaner somehow though we were red with heat and sweat and soil
But sleep came like a just reward and I knew that I’d never loved anyone before

bridge
Well sometimes things just fall apart
Sometimes From trying too little sometimes too hard
sometimes From just not knowing your own heart

Chorus

I’ll keep your face from those days in my mind forever
Kinda hopeful kinda sad but holding you and me together
Now I’m sitting in another bar alone unhinged untethered
Thinking of you every day and all the storms we weathered

Chorus x 2
