I’m staring down into my whiskey
I’m trying to kick start the day
The eggs and the bacon get colder
I push my all day breakfast away
The waitress says “I know what you’re thinkin’
I can see the open road in your eyes
Just say the word and I’ll … turn into a bird
And we can fly off to find our own sky”
Well I won’t say that I wasn’t flattered
But what she said was only half true
I had my mind on the road that’s for certain
But all the roads lead the way back/home to you
And no matter how much I look forward / where I am I look forward
The road drags me back to the past / To be back on the road to your side
And though I know that to pine is to stop myself flying / And whenever I’m gone, in my mind I belong
Your memory still holds me fast / Where I can sit and look into your eyes
Sometimes I want to be free of you / to roam
And to follow the road where I may
Into whatever comes after / Into the blazing horizon
A heart become too lonely to say / As free as a bird in the sky
“Maybe someone could still love me / And I know to my core that you love me
Maybe I could love too / And I know well that I love you too
If I can just find a way to stop hoping / Sometimes I think that I’m dreaming
To find / have found someone exactly like you
